Inula, also known as Elecampane, is used in human herbal medicine in cough preparations and by the Romans as a digestive sweetmeat. Valuable as a food for its inulin content. Inulin is a fructo-oligo-saccharide (fos) which acts as a prebiotic.
Inula Root (Elecampane Root) is a good source of calcium with a high Ca:P ratio.
Constituents: Inulin, volatile oil, saponins, sterol.
Actions: Digestive, expectorant, induces sweating, antiseptic.
