Calendula – Calendula officinalis

Height: 30-60cm

Constituents: Triterpenes, carotenoids, saponins, flavanoids.

Actions: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antifungal, reduces muscle tension & spasm, promotes wound healing and stops bleeding.
Calendula flowers are safe to feed to rabbits and chinchillas.  Although safe for guinea pigs, they tend to prefer vegetables and herbs to flowers.

Calendula cream is used for nappy rash in babies and sore nipples in women who are breast feeding. Calendula cream, ointment and gel are all good for rabbits and guinea pigs with sore skin.  Ointment is water resistant and useful for sore paws.  Gel and cream are more easily absorbed into the skin.
